Self defence is not only about physical techniques. It begins with awareness, confidence and a plan. These simple habits help in everyday life.
Before you step out
- Share your route and expected arrival time with a family member or friend.
- Keep your phone charged and emergency numbers (112, 181) on speed dial.
- Turn on the SOS / emergency feature of your phone or the 112 India app.
While travelling
- Prefer well-lit, busy routes and registered taxis or autos. Note the vehicle number and share it.
- Sit near the driver’s side or near other women in public transport.
- Trust your instincts — if something feels wrong, move to a crowded place, a shop or a police booth.
If someone threatens you
Make noise and attract attention. Your aim is to get away safely, not to fight. Simple self defence moves — breaking a wrist grip, creating distance, shouting firmly — are best learned and practised with a trained instructor.
Online safety
Keep social media accounts private, never share passwords or OTPs, and report fake profiles or blackmail at 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in.
Self defence training by the Trust
We organise self defence and safety sessions for girls in schools and colleges. Schools and groups can contact us to plan a session.
